A Vibrant Display of Fungi…
Hello Friends! Today I’m sharing a colorful toadstool garden which began with a watercolor wash using Brusho Crystals. If you’re not familiar with this product, you can read more about them in my previous post, here. I aimed to give these mushrooms a variety of bright colors to capture the essence of a magical garden. By sprinkling the Brusho crystals sparingly, I was able to create a panel from which to cut them. It’s easy to get carried away with the crystals and end up with mud!
The Greetery is one of my favorite brands because of their dies inspired by nature, particularly the BotaniCuts collection which includes the Toadstool Garden dies. From the previously mentioned watercolored panel, I managed to cut out two sets of toadstools, mixing and matching various pieces until I was satisfied with the outcome.
Finding the perfect palette
Placing the toadstools next to my card stock swatches, I was able to find just the right color combination, and ended up deciding to use three colors for the card base and mats. For the top most layer I chose a soft buttery yellow card stock, cutting it with the largest Semi-Circle die from Sunny Studio Stamps. I did some ink blending on the lower half with Distress Oxide Dried Marigold and Abandoned Coral. After ink blending, I used black and shimmery gold watercolor paints and a paint brush to splatter the semi circle.
A second semi-circle was made from brown card stock, cutting off the bottom portion with Lawn Fawn’s Hillside Borders Dies. This piece was used as the ground for the toadstools and was topped with some greenery which was cut using The Greetery: A Side of Greens die.
The sentiment, hello, was cut with a retired die from Stampin’ Up. After arranging and securing the mushrooms, I noticed a gap that needed filling. So, I pulled out The Greetery dies, Curio: Spring Findings, and cut out a snail. It was just what was needed!
Adding a necessity: BLING!
I traced the mushroom and snail detail lines with my all-time favorite glitter pen, Gelly Roll, Stardust. The pictures don’t do this glitter pen justice, as it looks much better in person!
For the final touch, I adhered some Iridescent Bubbles from Sunny Studios. These are flat backed and added another magical element to this card! If you haven’t noticed yet, I love anything that sparkles and shines, aka BLING!! Who’s with me?!?
The card base is cut from Pretty Peacock card stock and the mat is from Lost Lagoon, both from Stampin’ Up. The Lost Lagoon panel was textured with Spellbinders Latticeworks embossing folder before adhering to the card base.
I get such a thrill from using multiple brands to design a card, digging through my collection to discover just the right pieces that bring my ideas to life!
