Hi friends! I’m back today with Spellbinders new stitching die of the month, Stitched Taking Notes. I’ve had fun using this set for a graduation theme, making colorful notebook pages as a backdrop. It’s not too soon to start thinking about those graduations that will be taking place in the near future!
There are two variations that I’m sharing, both of which incorporate dies from Gnome Drive Graduation. With its cute apple, diploma and mortarboard, creating graduation cards comes easily! Please note that this die set coordinates with Gnome Drive Holiday dies, which is the set that includes the car. The packaging for Gnome Drive Graduation can be a little misleading, so be aware! I will be ordering the car set in the near future, as I really think it’s adorable!
Cutting with Stitched Taking Notes die
The Stitched Taking Notes die is very quick and easy to stitch, perfect for beginners! The finished piece is A2 sized, (5 1/2” x 4 1/4”), and can be adhered to an A2 card base after stitching.
With the idea of making two graduation cards, I began by die-cutting two panels with the Taking Notes dies. I chose lemon yellow and turquoise card stocks, knowing that a red apple would look beautiful on each color.
On the yellow base, I did the horizontal stitching with a lime green embroidery thread and the vertical with a grassy green. It was adhered to a turquoise card base.

The thread colors for the turquoise panel are orange (horizontal) and lime green (vertical). This piece was adhered to a red card base.

Adding some fun…
Using the Gnome Drive Graduation dies, I cut all of the pieces from white card stock. This makes the die-cutting process super quick and I highly recommend it!
Once cut, I placed the white pieces onto a sticky mat and began ink blending with Distress Oxide inks. Additionally, I accented some of the pieces with a white gel pen. Once all of the pieces were blended, I started piecing each component together.
On the turquoise background, I placed the elements predominantly on the left, with the mortarboard being “tossed” towards the right side. On the yellow background, I placed the elements on the right and eliminated the mortarboard.

Also included with the Taking Notes dies are four word dies, “hello”, “for you”, “a note” and “thanks”. I added a yellow “for you” banner to the top of the turquoise card and will add customized sentiments at a later date.
These cards would work for any grad, but are perfect for elementary graduates of which I have two this year!
I’m thinking that this apple die could coordinate into a scene, such as my Apple-solutely Awesome card. Wouldn’t that be fun?!
Thanks so much for stopping by today!
Until next time,
~Krista
